My work is appreciated, but after four months I still haven't received a job description and I am out of pocket
Each Friday and Monday we publish the problems that will feature in a forthcoming Dear Jeremy advice column in the Guardian Money supplement so that readers can offer their own advice and suggestions. We then print the best of your comments alongside Jeremy's own insights. Here is the latest dilemma – what are your thoughts?
I'm a parent working as an intern in the public sector. After four months, I still haven't been given an induction. As a result of this, I didn't find out about the possibility of applying for expenses until recently. To date, I still have no job description and have received neither guidance nor support in the role.
I know that the bosses like me and appreciate my work, but I feel I'm being taken advantage of. It's difficult to make ends meet when I am paying travel and food expenses to do a job for free.
I haven't said anything to my boss because I like the work, I am happy to be getting some experience in the sort of work that I'd like to find some day. I don't want to ruin my chances of being considered for work in the company at a later date.
